“After a three-week closure to complete safety work, the popular Space Mountain attraction at Disneyland  in Anaheim reopened Friday evening,” according to the L.A. Times.

Disneyland did the right thing – they did not challenge the immense Cal/OSHA fine they received when a contractor fell while cleaning the roof of Space Mountain.  His fall protection harness apparently failed.  He hit the lip of the roof and did not fall down but he did suffer a few broken bones. Disneyland deserved to be fined by Cal/OSHA

“A California agency issued its largest fine against Disney in at least 10 years when finding that the company “willfully violated” safety regulations related to a contractor’s injury on Space Mountain, state records show,” according to the O.C. Register.

The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health is proposing a $234,850 penalty against the Disneyland Resort, according to a report issued Friday. That’s the highest penalty that the Disneyland Resort has faced since at least 2003 from the division. Continue reading

Could Knott’s Berry Farm have prevented their stagecoach accident?

“Three Knott’s Berry Farm visitors sustained minor injuries on Sunday, Dec. 30, when a stagecoach they were riding in tipped over after one of its wheels detached,” according to ABC News.

Knott’s issued a press statement about the incident, where they disclosed that: “At approximately 1:25 pm on December 30 the left rear wheel detached from one of Knott’s Berry Farm’s stagecoaches with 14 passengers on board, causing the coach to tip to its side. Three guests were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The ride will be closed until further notice. Guest safety is Knott’s number one priority.” Continue reading

Another bad accident at Space Mountain as a contractor breaks several bones

A 37-year-old subcontractor, working for HSG Inc., fell while cleaning the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland Wednesday, breaking a leg, his right collarbone and several ribs, on Nov. 21, according to ABC News.

The worker was cleaning the roof in a bosun chair when it came loose shortly after 7 a.m., according to Anaheim Fire Marshal Jeff Lutz, according to CBS News. Continue reading
